Marilyn Elizabeth Cates, lovingly known as "Nanny", age 83 of Luttrell passed away peacefully Friday, June 13, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family. Born January 16, 1942, Marilyn was the heart of her family and loved by many. She loved fishing, gardening, yard sales and being surrounded by family and friends. Preceded in death by parents; mother, Jean Dawson, father, Arthur Dawson, twin-sister, Carolyn Dawson; son, Charles Cates; Sister, Bonnie Strickland, Brothers, Albert Dawson, Arthur Dawson (Bunky). father of her children, Arthur Eugene Cates, III.
Survivors: children, Jenny Cooley, Dustin and Nikie Cates, Johnny and Glenda Cates, Lonnie Cates. Grandchildren, Tifanny and Doug Atkins, Jason Cates, Destiny and Charlie Hamilton, Trey and Jada Cates, Kristy and Justin Napier, Amanda and Damien Wyatt, Christan, Boyette, Cassi, Keith and Ben Cooper. Great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Caroline, Emma Atkins; Emily, Waylon and Bryson Wyatt; Michael and Leeila Keck; Jaxon and Ashley Cates. Lifelong friends, Theresa, Gary and Dale Heidenreich. A special thanks to the staff of the Willow Ridge Center Nursing Home, Maynardville. Though she may be gone from our sight, Nanny will remain forever in our hearts.
