Marilyn Gallagher Obituary

Marilyn Hammond Gallagher, 89, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 21, 1936, in Shreveport, LA, to Laura and Roy C. Hammond.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home. A family graveside service will take place on Saturday at Forest Park Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Shreveport.
Marilyn attended South Highlands Elementary, Broadmoor Junior High, and C.E. Byrd High School, graduating in 1954. She continued her education at Southwestern at Memphis and the University of Mississippi. Deeply involved in her community, Marilyn was a member of the Shreveport Junior League, the Cotillion Club, and the Women's Department Club, and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Schumpert Hospital.
Baptized as a baby at First Presbyterian Church, she was one of its longest-serving members and cherished her lifelong connection to the congregation.
While raising her four children, Marilyn found joy in many hobbies, including needlepointing, bridge, tennis, and her favorite tradition-an annual fishing trip to the White River in Arkansas with her beloved husband, Andy. Known for her sharp wit and playful spirit, she was also a legendary prankster-best remembered for the infamous South Highlands Halloween Prank (IYKYK).
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Andrew B. Gallagher; her son, Paul T. Gallagher; her parents, Roy and Laura Hammond; and grandson-in-law, Kace Phillips.
She is survived by her children: Laura G. Amberson and husband Joe; John A. Gallagher and wife Camille; and Patrick T. Gallagher and wife Mary. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Claire A. Phillips, Joseph H. Amberson IV (Caroline), Davis B. Gallagher, Ethan E. Chamberlain, Emma E. Chamberlain, Evan W. Chamberlain, and Whitney Scroggins (Vincent Tallez); and great-grandchildren: George A. Phillips and Caroline C. Phillips. She will also be missed by her faithful feline companion, Lulu.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Christopher Snead and the team at Christus Cancer Center, the staff at Christus Highland, and the caregivers at Redbrook at the Glen for their dedicated and compassionate care of Marilyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, First Presbyterian Church, or Providence House.
