Marilyn Darlene Norton Updegraff was born October 10, 1953, in Marietta, Oklahoma, to William Virgil Norton and Maggie (Riddle) Norton. She was the sixth child born into a loving family that valued time spent together on both the Norton and Riddle sides.
Marilyn attended school in Marietta and later in Tishomingo, graduating from Tishomingo High School in 1972. On November 30, 1979, she married Terry Joe Updegraff. The first few years of their marriage Terry worked offshore in Louisiana. Their first son, Jeremy, was born in Dallas in June of 1980, and their youngest son, Matthew, was born in Ardmore in 1986.
Marilyn had a dedicated career as a secretary with the Oklahoma State Highway Department, where she worked for 37 years before retiring. She loved her family deeply and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Virgil and Maggie Norton; her husband, Terry Joe Updegraff; brother, Larry Norton; and sister, Linda Gayle Norton.
Marilyn is survived by her sons, Jeremy Updegraff and wife, April Updegraff, Matthew Updegraff and wife, Kelsey Updegraff; siblings, Louis Norton, Jerry Norton and wife Lili, Ronnie Norton and wife Barbara; sister in law, Carol Norton; grandchildren, Jeremiah Updegraff, Emerald Updegraff, Tierra Updegraff, Noah Updegraff, and Rylee Updegraff; close friend, Wayne Lemons, and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Pastor Stuart Bailey will officiate. Interment will follow at Tishomingo Cemetery.
