Marjorie Sue Montgomery, aged 79, of Bay City and formerly of Gilford, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at New Hope Bay in Bay City following a lengthy illness. A beacon of love and wisdom, Marjorie's spirit touched everyone she knew. Born on August 2, 1945, in Saginaw, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Ernest "Slim" and Harrietta (DeGeer) Botkins. Her early years were marked by a joyous childhood surrounded by her family's love and the supportive community of Vassar.
A proud alumna of Vassar High School, Marjorie graduated in the class of 1963, carrying with her the values of hard work and dedication that she learned in her formative years. The following year, on February 22, 1964, she married her beloved husband, Robert Montgomery. Their union was one of true partnership and mutual respect until Robert's passing in 1998.
Marjorie's professional life was characterized by her role as a receptionist at Frankenmuth Mutual, where she worked for many years until her well-earned retirement. Her colleagues remember her as a kind and welcoming presence, always ready to greet everyone with a warm smile.
A woman of faith, Marjorie was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove. Her commitment to her church community was unwavering, and her kindness was a testament to her beliefs. Marjorie's zest for life was evident in her love for golf, travel, and reading. She cherished the time spent playing games with her family and friends, and she had a particular fondness for watching reality TV, and a proud Pittsburgh Stealer fan which often sparked lively discussions and laughter.
Marjorie's legacy is carried on by her loving family: two sons and their spouses, David and Sara Montgomery, and Michael and Maria Montgomery. She was a cherished grandmother to five grandchildren, Amanda Sharpe, Ashlee (Tara) Garthe, Richard Robert Montgomery, Arilyn Renee and David Allen, as well as a great-grandmother to Jude, Persephone, and Emmett. Her sibling, Michele Hoffman, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will fondly remember Marjorie's kind and loving nature.
Funeral services to celebrate Marjorie's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove, with Pastor Josh Haller officiating. Her final resting place will be at Gilford Township Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. Visitation will take place at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street, Reese, on Tuesday from 3-7 pm at the funeral homes, and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
Marjorie Sue Montgomery lived a life full of love, kindness, and wisdom, and her memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family and friends in the years to come.
