Marta Neilson passed peacefully away on June 27, 2025 due to the effects of early onset Alzheimer's. She was surrounded by family and friends. Marta was born April 8, 1963 in Rupert, Idaho to George Edgar and Marjorie Louise Anderson Neilson. Marta was the youngest of 7 children, 3 boys and 4 girls.
Before college, Marta spent a couple of years as a nanny in New Jersey and then attended BYU Provo graduating in journalism and technical writing. She worked for several technical journals and did freelance writing work taking her to New York, Chicago, Salt Lake, and Seattle. Marta also was the editor for the Jefferson Review newspaper as well as the Scio Newspaper, both in Oregon. Marta finished her career with the LinBenton Education Service District where Marta worked on various web pages for about twenty schools throughout the district.
Marta was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and faithfully served in various callings. She never met a stranger and loved people and life facing each day with her beautiful smile and infectious laugh. She also loved her feline friends and would take it upon herself to feed the neighborhood ferrel cats at various feeding stations throughout the city.
Marta is survived by her brother Erik Neilson, sister Karla (Nick) Boren and brother Kjel (Kitti) Neilson and is the favorite aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Marjorie Neilson, sister Kristie (Wayne) Goates, brother Jon (Sherry) Neilson, and sister Lisa Neilson.
Special thanks to Legacy Village for the many years of dedicated love and care and to Renew Hospice for their kindness to the family and specialized nursing.
A graveside service will be held Thursday 10:00 AM, July 3, 2025 at the Riverton Cemetery, Riverton, Utah.
