In Loving Memory of Martha Jane Mathies (November 23, 1939 – July 7, 2025)
It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Martha Jane Mathies, who left us peacefully on July 7, 2025, at the age of eighty-five.
Born November 23, 1939, in Springfield, Illinois, Martha lived a life defined by her faith, kindness, compassion, courage and resilience. She was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, a loyal friend & neighbor, and a cheerful, caring person who touched the lives of everyone she met. Her true joy in life was her family.
She said "hello" to everyone and had a laugh that rang out above the rest. She had ambition, a competitive nature and energy way above the rest. Her days were filled with many pleasures, she was a Master Gardner and enjoyed all types of gardening, basket weaving, knitting for loved ones, playing the piano, competitive tennis, walking the beach, serving as a Sea Turtle Patrol Volunteer, and enjoying the outdoors. She generously and graciously shared her passions with those around her.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lawrence Charles Mathies, her children, Chris & (Linda) Mathies, Jane & (Tracy) Thompson, her five grandchildren: Trae & (Allie), Thompson, Tori & (William) Tutwiler, Tatum & (Bender) Middlekauff, Tanner Thompson and Tucker Thompson, her three great children, Tripp & Bonnie Thompson, and Poppy Middlekauff who will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness. She is also survived by her siblings Marylin & Gerry Hoppe, Patricia & Dominic Giacomini, Jerry & Judy Dalsin, and Lil Dalsin. Preceding her death, Curtis Lawerence Mathies (son), William & Alice Dalsin (parents), William Dalsin Jr (sibling). During Martha and Larry's 64 years of loving marriage, they made their home in Springfield, IL; Peoria, IL; Lexington, KY; Humble, TX; Palm Harbor, FL; and Beverly Beach, FL – where they formed many cherished friendships that continue to endure.
A memorial service and reception will be held on July 19, 2025, 10:00 am at Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church in Flagler Beach Florida. In remembrance of our mother's joyful spirit and vibrant personality, we kindly invite you to wear bright, cheerful colors to the funeral service. She brought so much light and warmth to those around her, and we hope to honor her memory in a way that reflects the brightness she shared with each of us.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dementia Society of America, Dementia Society.org.
Her memory will forever be a blessing and a gift to all who knew her.
