Martha "Marty" Russ McLiver, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025 at Pilgrim Manor, Plymouth, Indiana with family by her side. Marty was born on January 30, 1929, in her grandmother, Laura Vallad's spare bedroom to Etta Marie (Vallad) and Owen Wilshire Russ, in Hartford City, Indiana.
Marty grew up in Benton Harbor, Michigan graduating from Benton Harbor High School in May of 1946. On August 9, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Archie McLiver, in Roseland, Indiana. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family and love.
In August 1959 they moved their family to Plymouth, Indiana when Archie became manager of Town and Country Printers, Inc. When both of her children were in school, Marty went to work as Archie's right hand "woman" in the printing business and helped start their own business, Town and Country Press, Inc after leaving Indiana Press in 1972. They remained work partners until their retirement in 1985. Their marriage was a true partnership, and enjoyed many years, including time spent golfing, boating, and enjoying the warm winters of Fort Myers, Florida from 1985 until Archie's death in June of 1995.
Marty sold her home in Fort Myers, returning to her home in Plymouth on McLiver Drive, until she bought a home in Sebring, Florida in 2014 to become a "snowbird" once again. While in Florida, Marty remained active with golfing, crafting, painting, line dancing, water aerobics, bus trips, and her Friday Night Bingo. She enjoyed eating out, weekly trips to flea markets, and even in her 70's she was an avid runner, running several Marshall County Blueberry Stomps. She returned to Plymouth fulltime in 2022 to be near family.
Marty was a devoted mother to two children: Sherrie, married to Phil Martin; and David, who was married to Julie Hiester McLiver until her passing in February 2024. She was the proud grandmother to 6 grandchildren: PJ and Benjamin Martin; and David (Katy); Jonathan "Jack" (Emily); Jarom (Jennifer); and Amy McLiver. Her legacy continues through 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Marty also leaves behind her dear friend and "partner-in-crime," Joann Stratton.
Marty was preceded in death by her husband, Archie; her parents; brother, Robert Russ; sister, Lucille Kiser; daughter-in-law, Julie Heister McLiver; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jack and Jean McLiver; Ike and Anne McLiver; and Mary and Arthur McManhon.
Marty's life was defined by love, laughter, and deep-rooted family values. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering spirit touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness and resilience. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Cremation has taken place and per Marty's request no services will be held. A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
