Martha left this earth on July 22, 2025, to be with her husband, James, in Heaven. The song "Waiting on a Woman" comes to mind. James has been waiting on Martha for 371 days, making sure everything was just perfect for her.
Martha E. Mitchell was born in Tallaluh, LA on March 16, 1938, to Gus Eaker and Gwen (Guinevere). She had a wonderful childhood with her two younger brothers, Donnie and Sonny.
Martha met James Mitchell in the late summer of 1958. They dated for only 6 weeks and were married in Tallulah, LA at United Methodist Church on September 5, 1958. Their marriage lasted for 64 wonderful years. Their love was one for the story books. James once wrote a note for Martha that said "don't tell me to do something. Ask me and I'll give you the world." Anyone that knew Martha and James knew that James worshipped the ground that Martha walked on. If Martha said she liked something, James would make sure she got it.
After Martha retired from Hunter Fan, she and James traveled the world. They visited places like the Holy Land where Martha rode a camel. After their traveling days were behind them, they fished in Sardis, where they would bring fish home to cook for their family and church community.
Martha was a member of Bolivar First Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Methodist Women. She enjoyed her Sunday School class and she and James took the "old" people out to eat and spend time with them.
Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Moore Mitchell, three daughters, Debbie and Deborah Mitchell and Shannon Maness; her parents, Gus and Gwen Eaker, and one brother, Donnie Eaker.
Martha leaves behind two daughters, Sandra Mitchell of Bolivar and Jane Hubbard (Mike) of Bolivar, four grandchildren, Jamie Cruz (Mario) of Milan; Jonathan Hubbard (Savannah) of Bolivar; Rachel Maness of Corinth and Leigh Ann Gurien (Zeek) of Memphis; seven great grandchildren, Bianca Cruz, Annabelle Hubbard, Eli Cruz, Melanie Hubbard, Owen Hubbard, Reed Hubbard, and Odd Lee Gurien; one brother, Sonny Eaker (Libby) of Newnan, GA. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Bolivar First Methodist Church.
