Marty Kent Carritt was born on September 3, 1957, in Onawa, Iowa to parents Kenneth and Margaret (Adams) Carritt. Marty grew up in Little Sioux, Iowa and started school at Little Sioux and then graduated from West Harrison High School in 1975. Marty started working with his brothers at Humble Construction and then at Costal Yachts in Blair, Nebraska before starting Carritt Construction. Marty was united in marriage to Carla Biermann on April 21, 1980, and they were blessed with two children, Cody and Valerie. Later, he worked at Harrah’s Casino and then at the West Harrison School District as a bus driver and custodian.

Marty loved taking in the beauty of the Loess Hills. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his pond, sometimes by himself but mostly with family and friends. Marty cherished the time going to watch his kids and grandchildren in their various activities. He was a man who understood the true power of laughter; his humor graced every room he entered, leaving a legacy of joy that will not soon be forgotten. Marty had knack finding the light in the most ordinary moments. His ability to lift spirits with a well-timed joke or a playful quip brought a sense of warmth to the lives of those around him.

Marty died on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 67 years, four months and three days.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Terry and Michael Carritt. He is survived by his wife, Carla Carritt of Little Sioux; son, Cody Carritt and Jessica Foutch of Logan, Iowa; daughter, Valerie Carritt and her fiancé Ivan Ross of Omaha; grandchildren, Kai, Teagan, Myles, Berkley, Bristol, Jax, Olivia, Isaiah and Kellen; siblings, John Carritt and his wife Sandy of Little Sioux, Iowa, Danny Carritt of Little Sioux, Mary and her husband Tim Hamer of Pisgah, Iowa and Janene and her husband Tim Steckelberg of Missouri Valley, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Rhonda and her husband Kevin Johnson of Moorhead, Iowa and Helen Carritt of Little Sioux; and many other relatives and friends.
