It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Anna Byrd of Beaumont, who passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the age of 87, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born to loving parents, Annie Mae Crittenden and Ennis Deuitt Owen.
Mary is survived by her children, Eddie Byrd and his wife, Stephanie, of Rising Star, and Melissa McKague of Beaumont; siblings, Betty Owen of Cleveland; Dolly Owen of Fort Worth; Jim Owen of Houston; and John Owen and his wife, Nita, of Cleveland; along with a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Wilton Byrd; and her grandson, Aiden B. McKague.
A devoted mother, Mary did her best to instill a love for the Lord in Eddie, Melissa, and Aiden. She was gentle, kind-hearted, and full of joy. She loved spending time outdoors, especially in the garden tending to flowers, or caring for one of the many family pets. While not all of her years were easy, her unwavering faith remained constant. She often said,
Mary found great joy in serving in the nursery at Calvary Baptist Church, where she lovingly cared for young children. In her words, this was "time well spent."
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Compassion Hospice, with special gratitude to Stephanie Blanchard, Wanda Whitehead, and Elaine Stephen for their loving care and support. A special thanks also goes to neighbors Jamie and Sharon Albers and John and Raphaella Corbello for their many hours of help and kindness.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 3650 Dowlen Road, Beaumont, Texas 77706.
A gathering of Mrs. Byrd's family and friends will begin at 11:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Beaumont.
