Mary Lou Fannin

1957-2025

"She stitched love into every seam and carved joy into every gift-leaving behind a legacy not just in keepsakes, but in the hearts of all who were blessed to be loved by her."

A kind soul departed this world to join her Heavenly Father, on July 24, 2025. She passed peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Lou Fannin, age 68, of Catlettsburg, Ky was born in the early days of the year on January 18th, in 1957. She was the daughter of the late Felty and Imogene Wheeler Fannin, as well as a blessing to Gertrude Ramey. Gertrude Ramey raised Mary as her own from the young age of four at the Ramey Children's Home, Mary considered Gertrude to be her mother and cared very deeply for her. She was proud to give her the title of grandmother to her very own children. Mary attended the Hazel Green Academy in West Liberty, KY before starting her ever-growing family. She spent her entire life making sure that family felt the love of a wonderful mother, the warmth of happy home, and the smell of dinner cooking on the stove. She was a cherished lady with a beautiful smile and a sparking personality. Mary loved to create beautiful Carousels out of wood that she would gift to those she loved dearly. Her creativity really came through when she was working with wood or sewing. Mary made many treasured keepsakes for her family that will be cherished for lifetimes. She was a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary enjoyed spoiling and supporting her grandbabies, and it was her favorite pastime. She doted on them and loved them deeply. Her legacy will shine through their eyes for generations to come.

Mary leaves behind her best friend and soulmate Roger Fryer of whom held her hand until the end, four beloved children Rachel Shelton and her husband David of Catlettsburg, KY, Mary Ann Smith and her husband Doug also of Catlettsburg, KY, Ruth Ann Rice and her husband Robert of Georgetown, KY, and Sarah Beth Scott of Catlettsburg, KY; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three more precious ones on the way, and one sister Kathy Vanhoose of Columbus, OH.

In addition to her parents, Mary is enjoying a Heavenly Reunion with one son-in-law, Brandon Scott.

Mary was laid to rest in a private family service at Rooster Ridge Cemetery shortly after her passing. It was a time of remembrance and deep peace for the family that was able to be in attendance. Mary would have loved it because it was just as she requested.
