Mary Jacangelo Obituary

Mary Anne Jacangelo (Mare) passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13th at the age of 84, just 2 weeks shy of her 85th birthday.
Formerly of Newark, Fairfield and Cedar Grove, Mare is survived by her beloved and only daughter, Michele Jacangelo, Brother Charles Lovallo, and sister in law and best friend, Judith Jacangelo Healey.
Mare was born in Newark, New Jersey on June 27th 1940 to Helen Caprio Lovallo and Theodore Lovallo. She went to Garfield Elementary School and Barringer High School in Newark. Soon after, she started her career working with the County Office and then became the Payroll Supervisor at Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove where she worked for many years until a brain aneurysm/stroke caused her to retire.
In 1988 at the age of 47, Mare suffered a cerebral hemorrhage that left her paralyzed on her dominant side and unable to speak. She fought hard to overcome her limitations and learned to walk and become somewhat self-sufficient. Mare endured a lot. She beat breast cancer, broken hips, and even Covid.
Prior to the stroke Mary Anne was a devoted mother, loyal friend and hard worker. She worked 3 different jobs, coached Cheerleading and volunteered her time. She loved to dance, party with friends and vacation in Bermuda. She enjoyed Sunday dinners with her parents, Summers in Point Pleasant Beach, and Penn State Football.
Mare continued to do her best to enjoy life after the stroke. She would spend time with family and friends, hang out with her beloved Shih Tzu's Bella, Minnie and Josie and enjoy her wine on the porch in LBI.
Ever the fighter, Mary Anne remained positive and resilient right until the end. After all she had been through, she still did not want to give up.
She spent her last few years at Genesis Southern Ocean Center Nursing Home, where she was a presence to be reckoned with. Finally, her illnesses and fatigue caught up with her and she passed away at SOCH in Manahawkin with her daughter and best friend Judy by her side.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 6-8 pm at Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 335 South Main St., Barnegat, NJ 08005. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered on Wednesday at 10:30 am at St. Mary's RC Church, 747 West Bay Ave, Barnegat, NJ 08005. Private cremation.
