Mary Joan Perrigo, born on January 19, 1934, in Bethel, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, at Mason Christian Village. She lived a life filled with laughter, love, and a deep connection to her family and community.
Mary Jo was a beloved wife to Virgil "Dean" Perrigo, with whom she shared a remarkable 71 years of marriage. Together, they created a warm and joyful household where food was one of their favorite love languages. An avid cook, Mary Jo expressed her affection through the meals she prepared and the treats she gifted to friends and family, each bite infused with her generous spirit. Many were the recipients of her delicious homemade caramels and delightful country cooking.
Beyond her kitchen, she embraced various interests, including bowling and sewing. She and Dean traveled extensively throughout the United States during their retirement years, something they treasured doing together.
Mary Jo and Dean were also very active in their church, Christ's Church at Mason, for more than 40 years. They especially loved being a part of the community of friends they had in their Sunday School class. Mary Jo’s Christian faith was of primary importance to her and shaped who she was. She was a vibrant personality, outgoing and friendly. She fostered strong relationships and was regarded as a great friend by many. Her joyfulness and generosity shaped the lives of those around her, particularly her beloved sons, daughter-in-law, and grandsons, Kyle (Emily) Perrigo and Bryce Perrigo. Her family was among her proudest accomplishments.
Mary Jo is survived by her two devoted sons, Jeffrey Perrigo and Douglas (Lynn) Perrigo, who will carry on her loving legacy. While her physical presence will be sorely missed, her spirit and the memories cherished by her family will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
She joins her deceased family members, including her husband Dean, parents Dewey and Viola Hawkins, brothers Noble Lee Hawkins and Johnny D. Hawkins, and sister Effie "Margarete" Hawkins, in eternal rest.
A visitation will be held on August 14, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at the Stone Center at Christian Village of Mason, located at 411 Western Row Road, Mason, OH, 45040. Mary's life, full of warmth and kindness, will be celebrated by all who knew her.
