Mary Jo Smith Ivey, of Quitman, Mississippi, went to her heavenly home on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born on Saturday, April 17, 1937, in Quitman, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Thomas Alvie and Minnie Lee James Smith.

A dedicated member of Faith Tabernacle in Quitman, MS, Jo was deeply rooted in her faith, which served as the cornerstone of her life. Her love for God and her desire for others to know Jesus as she did shaped her every action, making her a guiding light to all fortunate enough to cross her path.

Jo loved hard and lived life to the fullest, always approaching challenges with vigor and determination. She worked endlessly to overcome life's obstacles, embodying a strength that inspired those around her.

As a mother, Jo was unparalleled, pouring her heart into nurturing and supporting her children. Not only was she the most awesome mother, but she was also a cherished prayer partner for her daughter, Jackie! She wanted nothing more than to be remembered as a child of the Most High God, and her legacy will continue to shine through the lives she touched.

Jo leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, faith, and joy, reminding us that a life lived in service to others and to God is the most fulfilling of all. As we celebrate her life, we find solace in knowing that she is now at peace, embraced in the love she shared with those around her and forever in the presence of her Savior and being an advocate to our Heavenly Father for her loved ones here on earth.

Jo is survived by her loving daughter, Jackie Ivey McKinney, great-grandson, Bryce Jarod McKinney; brother, David Timothy Smith (Theresa); sister, Pam Belvin (George), and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded by her husband, Houston C. Ivey; son, Houston “Dennis” Ivey; grandsons, Justin McKinney and Jarod McKinney; brother, James Smith, and Dot Hamburg (Virgil).
