Mary Ann Steele, 91, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
Mary Ann was born on October 27, 1933 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Frank and I. Elizabeth (Ostrowski) Wegenka, Sr. She graduated from the Sacred Heart Convent, class of 1951. She attended Platte College and Northwest Missouri State University.
She worked at the First National Bank after coming to Maryville and Citizen State Bank. Later she worked for Joe Bearers Law Firm.
She was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, James Edward Gray American Legion Auxiliary Post 100, Knight of Columbus Auxiliary, Ladies Guild of St. Gregorys and the Legion of Mary. She participated in bowling, BPW, square dancing and crafts.
Preceding her in death Alfred E. Steele, whom she married on May 10, 1958, her parents, brother, Frank Wegenka, Jr., two nieces, Patricia Batton and Sharon Wegenka and one nephew, Robert Craig Pierce.
Survivors include nieces, Teresa Webster, Maryville, Missouri, Cathey Frederickson, Maricopa, Arizona; sister-in-law, Laveta (Jack Lee) Pierce, DeKalb, Missouri; brother-in-law, Donald (Vivian) Steele, St. Joseph, Missouri and several other nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial 11am Saturday, March 8th at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Entombment Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, Missouri. Rosary 10:30am Saturday, March 8th at the church. The family will receive friends from 9:00am to 10:30am at the church.
Mary Ann has requested memorials be made in care of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic School, RCIA or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
