Maryanne Riggs Obituary

Maryanne Tassi Riggs, age 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by her loving family on July 5, 2025 Maryanne was born on November 19, 1943, to Edward Emil and Margaret Mattimore Tassi at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. In 1954, her family relocated from Brooklyn, New York, to Louisville, where she attended St. Francis of Assisi Grade School and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Class of 1961.
Early in her career, Maryanne worked as a medical assistant and X-ray technician before marrying the love of her life, Dr. Joseph Christopher Riggs, in November 1966. Together, they raised four children and worked side by side in his chiropractic practice for many years.
A devoted Catholic, Maryanne's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She believed deeply in God's plan, and her intense spiritual devotion brought strength and inspiration to everyone around her. She found joy in preparing meals for loved ones, and she was an enthusiastic card and domino player who rarely missed an opportunity for a friendly game. Above all, Maryanne loved being with her family-cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events and celebrating their milestones.
Maryanne was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, generosity, and strong faith left a lasting legacy, and she will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband of 53 years, Joseph (Kit); her brother-in-law, Dennis Seitz; and her nephew and godson, Jason Seitz.
Maryanne is survived by her children: Joseph C. Riggs Jr. (Michelle), Elizabeth Riggs (Dale Leys), Kathleen Riggs Daniel (Scott), and Jennifer Riggs Zeman (Adam); grandchildren: Riggs and Holder Daniel, Wyatt and Christopher Zeman, Justin (Lilly), and Steven Darrow; and great-grandchildren Bryton and Barrett Darrow. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret "Margo" Rose Tassi; her brother, Edward Emil Tassi Jr. (Nancy), and their children: Mikhail Tassi (Alma), Ryan Tassi, Aly Tassi, and grandson Jaxon; as well as sisters-in-law Theresa Seitz and Angela Wohlleb (Joe); brothers-in-law C. Dennis Riggs (Kitty), Dr. Patrick Riggs (Diane), Michael Riggs (Debbie), and Nicholas Riggs - and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life and a Funeral Mass will be held at a later date TBD.
