Matthew M. Stone, 49, of Pascoag, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 3, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Tracey A. (Anderson) Stone and the proud father of Ryan M. Stone. Born in Providence, he was the son of Lloyd "Skip" Stone of Woonsocket and Sandra J. (MacLeod) Stone of Plainfield, CT.
Matthew graduated from Burrillville High School where he was captain of the varsity ice hockey, football and baseball teams. He was most well-known for his contributions to the boys' ice hockey team where he was First Team All Division for Met B and helped lead the boys to a state championship in their division. Matthew was also an accomplished student, member of the student council and served as a senate page in the Rhode Island Senate.
Following high school, Matthew attended Norwich University (The Military College of Vermont). Norwich is the oldest private senior military college in the country and the birthplace of ROTC. Matthew attended Norwich as a contracted cadet under an Army ROTC scholarship where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering. During his time at Norwich, Matthew achieved the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel as the Provisional Battalion Commander, he was also a member of Ranger Platoon. Matthew was ultimately chosen to be a member of Skull & Swords, a secret honor society.
Following Norwich, he went on to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) Degree from Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa, where he was Valedictorian of his class and eventually returned to Rhode Island with his wife Tracey and son Ryan to raise their family and opened Glocester Family Chiropractic in Chepachet. "Doc", as he was most widely known, was a dedicated caregiver to his many patients and he truly loved what he did. Living in Burrillville, Matt returned to his love of hockey and became a dedicated Coach for both youth and high school players. To his youth kids he was "Coach" and his high school kids, he was "Coach" or "Doc". Matt began coaching with the Burrillville Junior Hockey League and then went on to coach youth hockey with the Providence Junior Friars and Providence Hockey Club as well as serving as a volunteer assistant coach with the Burrillville High School boys hockey team where he helped lead the boys to back-to-back Division I state championships in 2015 and 2016. Matt was dedicated to not only developing hockey skills in his players, but also developing them into outstanding people. While he loved coaching them all, there was nothing he took more pride in than coaching his own son and watching him become the man he is today, now following his legacy and also attending Norwich University in the Corps of Cadets.
Matthew leaves behind his loving wife, Tracey and son Ryan Stone of Pascoag; his beloved brother, Jeffrey and his wife Denise (Fournier) of Pascoag; his loving sister, Erin (Stone)Vezina of Norwich, CT; his niece Bridget; his nephews, Chad and Colin; his niece, Jessica Anderson and nephew, Kevin Anderson; along with his "mee-maw" and 'g-paw", Angela and David Keeton. In addition to his beloved family, Matt leaves behind many players, patients and friends, along with his dedicated Norwich brothers and family who were such a significant part of his life.
Calling hours for Matt will be held on Friday, July 11th from 4 to 8 PM at the Boucher Funeral Home, 272 Sayles Ave., Pascoag, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 12th at 10 AM at St. Philip's Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. All are welcome to attend calling hours and Mass. There´s one special word that captures the essence of Matt Stone, and that is "mensch." It´s a Yiddish word that describes him best: a man who embodies compassion, integrity, wisdom, respect for all living things. Rest in Peace our dear, sweet doctor, and May your Memory be a blessing for us all...

So sorry for your loss, may he rest in comfort, a life lived well but taken way to soon. I was a patient in 2020, finding out he was a graduate a year before myself from BHS. Sympathy & Prayers during this difficult time

My sincerest, heartfelt condolences go out to Dr. Stone's family. Hearing this news took my breath away. Matt was the kindest, sweetest, most gentle man and most incredible doctor. We always talked at length about my kids and his son. He was such a proud, wonderful father and he always gave me such great parenting and life advise. When my babies screamed while I was getting adjusted, and my nerves felt like they were on fire, Matt's soothing voice and grounded energy would reassure me that all would be OK. When another had constant ear infections he would squeeze us in immediately. He was always there. I will miss you so much, Doc. I wish I had made an appointment recently so I could hear your voice and give you a hug one more time. You will be missed beyond measure.

With so much love,
Jesse Volante (and Peter and Kathy)

Our heartfelt condolences to Matt´s family. Although I had not spoken to Matt in many years, I have many fond memories of his high school and college years as a close friend of my son.

Matt was more than a husband, a father or a coach. He was an admired mentor. Numerous conversations about hockey with him revealed a tremendous character and spirit about coaching, and how to coach, youth sports. I was able to get to a high level of coaching youth sports and I credit his conversations with me as the foundation for my successes. Every conversation with him left me incredibly proud that he would share the information with me. I didn´t deserve what he had to share.

More importantly, he wanted to know more about my children. He also wanted to share how proud he was of Ryan. He was always humble about his well Ryan was doing. His live of his wife and son were evident in our conversations. To say I´m devastated is an understatement. To say the community is devastated is an understatement. Most men make memories. A few men make an impact. He was among the few.
