Maud Victoria Douett, a beloved matriarch, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 16, 1935, Maud was a woman of resilience, strength, and compassion who dedicated her life to her family. She was married to Edward Douett in 1973, and together they raised a family of six children. Tragically, Edward transitioned in 1986, leaving Maud a widow at the age of 51. Despite the challenges, Maud's unwavering love and devotion to her children-George, Juliette, Emmanuel, Carol, Carl, and Denese-shaped the foundation of their lives.
Between 1952 and 1967, Maud gave birth to her six children, balancing the responsibilities of motherhood with the demands of survival. Her days were spent working tirelessly as a higler in Coronation Market, where she sold goods to provide for her family and ensure a brighter future for her children. She instilled in them the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family, laying the groundwork for the generations that followed. Throughout this time, Maud's unrelenting spirit and strong sense of duty kept her focused on her family's welfare, even in the face of adversity.
In 1998, at the age of 62, Maud made the bold decision to immigrate to the United States, seeking a better life for herself and her children. In the years that followed, she expanded her family by welcoming 16 grandchildren between 1969 and 2002. Maud embraced her new life in America with the same love and dedication she had shown her own children. As a caregiver to her grandchildren and later to her great-grandchildren, she became an anchor in their lives, offering them not only her love but also a deep connection to their roots and cultural heritage. Over the years, Maud was blessed with 16 great-grandchildren, whom she nurtured and taught the same values of love, unity, and respect that had been passed down to her.
Maud Victoria Douett leaves behind a lasting legacy as the beloved matriarch of a large and loving family. She was an adopted mother to all who needed her, opening her heart, home, and arms to anyone in need. Through her actions, she showed that family is not just by blood but by love and commitment. Maud's selflessness and warmth will continue to live on in the generations she helped shape. She may be gone, but her impact is everlasting, and her legacy of love, resilience, and unity will remain forever in the hearts of those she touched.
