Melvin was born on November 13, 1947 in Wheeler, Texas. He graduated from Kelton High School and then made his home in Briscoe, Texas. He married the love of his life on May 3, 1974. He spent his life as a long haul truck driver before moving on to a career in the oilfield. In the oilfield he made many many great friends. Melvin was always a hard worker and did whatever it took to provide for his family. He then retired and began ranching. He loved driving out and checking his cattle and when his grandkids were little they loved going with Pa to feed, setting on the arm rest and bossing Pa was their favorite.
One thing we have heard during this time from so many people is "he was a good one". That absolutely describes him. Always smiling and the life of the party. He made friends everywhere he went. Melvin loved spending time with family and friends at the lake or in the mountains and was always ready to plan the next trip. He followed his grandkids and chased all their dreams with them. It didn't matter what they wanted, he would always find a way to make it happen. When at home you would find him in his garage tinkering with some project or planning the next one. Him and Brian spent many hours in the garage hashing out all lifes problems (often getting grounded from each other).
Melvin loved hard and lived life big. He always taught his kids and grandkids the importance of hard work and the value of family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that we will always cherish.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Cathy Hunt, his children, Shawn Hunt and wife Melissa of Briscoe, Texas, Shelly Walden and husband Brian of Briscoe, Texas, and Melonie Stone and husband James of Lubbock. Grandchildren Rayden Gonzales, Tucker Walden, Justin Hunt, Khole Garoutte, Tracy Meadows, Addy Kimbro and Kaleb Kimbro. Great grandchildren Hudson, Weston, Eian, Braylei, and Rhett. Mother in law Wanda Childress, Brother and sister in laws, Clyde and Jane Dukes, Pat Childress and Scott Luttrell. And so many more special family and friends that have became family.
He is predeceased by his parents Roy and Lillie Hunt, and all of his brothers and sisters, Lee Roy, Tommy, Raford, Lavonia, Lavada, Shirley, Dorothy, Genieva and Roylene. Brother in law Wayne Childress, Sister in law Kay Luttrell, neice Amanda Childress and father in law L.D. Childress.
