April 16, 1943 – September 22, 2024
Michael Gregory Getty, age 81, passed peacefully away on 9/22/24 at home. Born in Meyersdale, Pa. Mike was the son of the late William and Jean Middleton Getty. Mike proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Berlin, Germany at Tempelhof Air Force Base from 1962-1965. Mike Graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business in 1969.
In his business career he lived and worked in several cities across the country including Baltimore, New York City, Los Angeles and retired as Vice President of Corporate Development of the Marriott Corporation at the Corporate Headquarters in Washington D.C.
Upon retirement he moved into The Heritage Plantation in Pawleys Island in 1994. Mike loved travel, reading and most of all golf. He has been a member of The Reserve golf club since its inception.
He was preceded in death by his sister Linda.
Survivors include the love of his life and best friend Paula, his wife of 58 years. Daughters Jacqueline Walston (Greg) of Glen Burnie, Md and Christina Hooper (Bill) of Columbus, Oh. Two grandchildren Meghan Minor (Kody) and Shane Walston (Lauren) and two great grandchildren Elliott Walston and Karsyn Rae Minor. Brother Dr. Thomas Getty (Chris) of Kalamazoo, Mi and Leslie Vincent of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister Linda.
A private service will be held for the family.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Ben (deceased 10/9/19) and I have been neighbors in Heritage Plantation to Michael and Paula since 1994. Sincerest sympathy and condolences to Paula and her family in the loss of their loved one. They have been such good helpful neighbors. I will miss seeing Michael. He was good at getting stray golf balls from our backyard as we live by the 16th fairway. I will miss that. He loved to play golf. May your soul rest in peace. Love you Paula.
