SEBASTOPOL:
Services for Mr. Michael McLaughlin will be held 12 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Milling Funeral Home of Sebastopol. Bro. Paul Jordan and Bro. George Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to chapel service.
Michael Ralph McLaughlin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on July 4, 1944, in Houston, Texas, he was a proud Texan known for his steadfast dedication to family, country, and community.
After graduating from Sam Houston State University, Michael embarked on a distinguished career with the U.S. Navy, where he devoted over 30 years of his life, including notable service in Special Forces and four tours in Vietnam. His commitment to safeguarding freedom left an indelible mark on those who served alongside him and earned him the admiration of his peers.
Following his military service, Michael continued to serve his community through a 10-year career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) before retiring. His life was defined by a deep sense of duty and an unwavering determination to help others.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Sherry McLaughlin of Rosebud, Mississippi, who was the light of his life. He is also cherished by his five children: Cari Cooley (Joe) of Tyler, Texas; Chad McLaughlin of Huntsville, Texas; Kacie Pilgrim (Michael) of New Waverly, Texas; Karla Velasquez of Huntsville, Texas; and Kyle Boykin (Angie) of Philadelphia, Mississippi. He was endlessly proud of his 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews who will carry forward his legacy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth V. and Helen McLaughlin; his beloved daughter Christina Blount; and his brother Kenneth "Bunky" McLaughlin.
In addition to his family and professional commitments, Michael was a man of many passions. He so enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether hunting and fishing or enjoying a round of golf. He was also known for his competitive spirit, always ready for a hot game of poker, and for offering advice to anyone who would listen-a testament to his generous nature and wisdom.
Michael McLaughlin's remarkable life, characterized by service, love, and adventure, will leave a lasting legacy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will forever remain in their hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project. https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/
