Michael Ralph Andrew was one of three sons of Richard and Sharon (Myers) Andrew. He was born March 16, 1963, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, and grew up in Nemaha County in southeast Nebraska, attending school in Auburn, at Locust Grove rural school, and then graduating from Auburn High School. Mike then earned his motorcycle mechanics degree at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska.
On September 3, 1993, Mike was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Janet Byfield on the back porch of their home in Nemaha, Nebraska, where they first made their home. He welcomed Janet’s two children, Brandon and Dani, as his own.
Mike worked for many years as the mechanic at Johnny’s Cycle in Nebraska City. He was a member of, and very active in, the Nemaha Valley #4 Masonic Lodge in Brownville. Along side Janet, after retiring from mechanics, they operated the cafe and grocery store, MJ’s Market, in Nemaha.
In addition to riding motorcycles and 4 wheelers, Mike became a big fan of Husker football and volleyball. He loved traveling to Colorado to see the mountains and watch the eagles. He was well known for teasing and joking with family members and others he was around. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed his dogs (and grand dogs; Ernie, Ellie and Liza), but more importantly loved taking Tank on adventures!
While he was in Sabetha, Kansas, Mike was rushed to the emergency room at Sabetha Community Hospital, where he passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025.
At the age of 62 years, 4 months, and 5 days, he was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Sharon, parents-in-law Gene and Kathryn Byfield, and brother David.
Mike is remembered with love by his wife Janet of Auburn; son Brandon Oestmann (Ryleah Burke) of Sloan, IA; daughter and son-in-law Dani and Nate Jarecke of Lincoln; grandchildren Jakleigh Burke, Audrina, Emmett, and Merritt Oestmann; brother and sister-in-law Pat and Kathy Andrew of Brownville; nephew Josh Andrew of Lincoln; niece Ashley and Guy Attoungble of Belleview; nephew Jonah Andrew of Germany; great nephews Trent Andrew and Christian Attoungble; grandmother Eylene Whittier of Council Bluffs, IA; Aunt Donna Andrew of Brownville; Aunt Denise and Paul Frank of Dallas, TX; Uncle David Hill of North Brand, MN; Uncle Doug Hill (Sammy) of Council Bluffs, IA; brothers-in-law Larry (Cindy) Byfield of Auburn, Richard (Toni) Byfield of Auburn; sisters-in-law, Bev (Linn) DeBuhr of Auburn, Cathy Kronyak of Auburn, Patty (Dan) Johanningmeier of McGregor, IA; and other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2:00 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Auburn. Burial of Mike’s ashes will be on a later date in the Nemaha Cemetery.
