Tribute of Life
Minister Minnie Smith, age 84, born in Kilmichael Mississippi to the late Emma and George Thompson. She was truly heavenly sent a remarkable woman whose warmth, humor, and compassion touched everyone she met. She was the heart of our family and a constant light guiding us all.
She was funny and kind, always ready with a smile or a laugh that could lift any spirit. Her caring nature knew no bounds, and she gave of herself generously-twice over. Whether offering a listening ear, a warm meal, or a helping hand, she was always present and intentional, making each person feel seen, loved, and valued. Her love was unconditional, her generosity unmatched, and her presence unforgettable. She lived her life with grace and humility. Her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to guide us.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Charlie Smith and eleven siblings, sisters: Stella Mae (John) Hamer, Cornelia (John) Alexander, Marie (George) Johnson, Annie Maye (Philip) Rudolph, Emma (Luvill) Ward, and brothers: George (Ethel) Thompson, Dorsey (Katie) Thompson, Eugene (Emma) Thompson, Benjamin (Fannie) Thompson, and Clyde Lloyd Thompson. Yes, she closed the chapter of a generation.
She leaves to cherish her memory son, Tony Wilson, daughters Lesa (Matthew) Neal, and Karen (Darryl) Washington. Grand children: Shante, Matthew (Crystal), Tony, Naceirra (Elijah), Marcus (Sahara), Tia, Nijah, Nadirr, and Darryl Jr. and 8 great grands, and a special niece Geraldine Miller and her children and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Minister Smith received her early education in Kilmichael Mississippi, moving to Memphis for brief period and then to Youngstown Ohio with her mother. She attended East High School studying accounting. At the age of 17 she established accounting record keeping systems for various businesses in Youngstown. After graduating from high school, she moved to Wilmington Delaware.
In 1980 she met the love of her life Charlie, enjoying visiting various churches in Delaware and Maryland and family vacations at the beach. Later in Life she attended Goldey Beacom College majoring in accounting. She worked for a local insurance company for 25 years as an account analyst. After retiring she dedicated her time to caring for her grandchildren. Whom everyone knew was her world.
She had a call to share the word of God, because of her desire to speak his message she pursued a bachelor's degree in theology and obtained her degree from Jamison School of Theology. She worked with several churches helping to establish 501©3. Once she obtained her degree she founded "The Abundant Love of God Ministries (2014) ministering to several senior living programs with the guidance of Pastor Waters at People's Baptist Church of New Castle Delaware.
"Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice knowing that mommy is now resting in the presence of the Lord. Her life was a testament of faith, love, and selfless devotion to her family and others. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and nurturing heart will be deeply missed but never forgotten".
