Mirl Royse Ruth, 79, died at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Georgetown, Kentucky. Mirl was born in New Castle, Indiana to the late Helen Katherine DeWitt Royse and Shelby Lauren Royse on September 8, 1945 among 8 siblings. She and her late husband, Paul "Flashlight" Ruth, were married 36 years and raised 3 children of their own along with several more. Mirl was a generous soul who always took care of others and provided shelter and home-cooked meals for many. The kids of Etterwood even had a plaque made for her as the "Neighborhood Mom of 1981". She was a homemaker but worked outside at times, as restaurant hostess and later as cashier at Sunoco on North Broadway. She loved sports, watching Reds baseball and UK Wildcats basketball, but she always cheered quietly for her home IU Hoosiers. She was an avid bowler, loved reading romance novels, working crossword puzzles, and fishing. Even late in life, she and her sisters could be found side by side at the Scott County Park with their poles in the water.
Mirl will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lori (Paul Kissinger) Ruth, Craig (Heather) Ruth, and Katherine B. (Joseph Williams) Ruth, all of Georgetown, a special niece and nephew, Judy May Cook of Owenton, Kentucky, Kenneth Ray Farley of St. Petersburg, Florida; her grandchildren, John Paul Murphy, Sara Ann Murphy, Zachary Isaacs, and Gabriel Gene Wise; her great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, and Matteo; her brothers, Ronald (Alma) Royse, Darrell (Darlis) Royse, Sam Royse; her sisters, Fanny (James) Devers, Mary Royse, Olive Petty, and the youngest, Phyllis Ruth. Mirl was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a special brother-in-law, Carl B. Ruth, and a great-grandchild, Mikelin Murphy.
A Celebration of Life gathering is being planned for a later date. **Details will be updated here on her obituary page.
