Murlene was born June 23, 1953, in Ada, Oklahoma. She spent most of her life in Michigan raising her family. She loved gardening, especially growing her own vegetables. She also enjoyed taking walks along the river, playing games on the computer and her phone, and celebrating July 4th. Murlene's favorite past-time was spending time with family and friends.
Murlene leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory including: three children Eugenia (Tim) Wright, Rex (Teen) Caruthers, and Melissa Smith; seven grandchildren Rebecca Valentine, Amber (Chuck) Sexton, Austin Smith, Chad Madison, Brian Brauneller, Aaron Brauneller, and Shane Brauneller; four great grandchildren Edward Valentine, Abigail Valentine, Charlotte Sexton and Leo Sexton; and many nieces and nephews.
Murlene died Monday, July 11, 2025, at home. She is preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Lona (Shepherd) Garrett, a son-in-law Richard Smith, and four brothers Marlan Garrett, Dennis Garrett, Edward Garrett, and Paul Garrett. Hutchins Funeral Home is assisting Murlene's family with cremation and her life will be celebrated at a later date. You are invited to leave a message of comfort for Murlene's family.
