Myra Bonhage-Hale Obituary

Myra Elizabeth Bonhage-Hale, died peacefully at home on July 2nd, 2025, at the age of ninety. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Shannon O'Brien of Baltimore, and William Nicoll Hale, Jr. of Baltimore. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Shannon O'Brien Hale of Fayetteville, Arkansas, son William Nicoll Hale, III, of Whitehall, Maryland, granddaughter, Aijah Watkins, of Morgantown, West Virginia, sister, Virginia "Binnie" Bonhage Bailey, of Towson, MD, nephews Stanley Bailey, III and Ryan B. Bailey, nieces Lisa Feidler of Glen Burnie, MD, and Francine Shannon Dzugan of Shepherdstown, WV.
Myra attended Towson High School, 1953, Washington College, BA, 1957, University of Maryland, MSW, 1965, Maryland Institute of Art, Associate of Arts, 1979. She worked as a community organizer in Baltimore City, and then relocated to Alum Bridge, West Virginia, working at Weston State Hospital. She founded the La Paix Organic Lavender Farm and hosted the annual Lavender Fair.
She created the Beautiful Backyard contest in Druid Hill in the 1960's and created the plans for the Contee-Parago Park in Bolton Hill, In 2008, Myra was inducted into the Towson High School Hall of Fame as a noted herbalist, entrepreneur, and advocate for social justice, peace, and the environment.
