Nancy Charolette Holloway Bush
Nancy Charolette Holloway Bush, of
Jay, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born in Brewton, Alabama, she was welcomed into her family on March 7, 1949. Her parents, Oren Franklin and Edna Elizabeth Holloway, took her home to
Jay, Florida. They continued to grow their family over the years, making Charolette the third of seven children.
Nicknamed "Tink" by her siblings, Charolette took turns as ringleader along with her older siblings, Oren "Mike" Michael and Linda Dianne (James Howell, Sr.). As with many large families, the younger ones fell into line and were often shepherded by the older kids.
Her younger siblings, Marsha (Vic Rutherford), Eddie (Mary), Susan (Mark McGee), and Greg (Dawn) were treated to many days of exploration of the ponds and creeks around their land as they acted out plays, built forts and hideouts, and befriended every child, pet, and farm animal they could along the way.
Each sibling possessed a devotion to one another as they grew up. They were blessed to understand the hard work and merriment of farm life as they worked the fields alongside their parents.
Charolette excelled at everything in high school including softball, cheerleading, social clubs, and academic clubs. She attended Pensacola Junior College where she earned her credentials as a Dental Assistant and later as a Dental Hygienist.
The untimely loss of Mike in 1962 deepened the siblings' reliance upon one another. Tink often recalled how she and Dianne struggled-as they each graduated high school and married- with the pain of leaving their younger siblings behind. She needn't have worried, as all of the Holloway clan possess a distinctive brand of headstrong empathy that guides them to this day. Charolette is survived by her son, Gene Lamar Oliver, Jr. (Janice) and their children, Lucas Murphy-Mezzick and Jacob Oren Oliver. She is survived by her daughter, Lori Elizabeth (Ryan Bitely) and their children, Riley (Melanie), Robin, and Reagan. Charolette is also survived by the father of her children, Gene L. Oliver Sr. (Dolores). She will be mourned by the Oliver families sprinkled throughout the southeast as well as dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, classmates, and kinfolk.
Her siblings, Mike, Dianne, and Eddie await her in heaven with joy.
A funeral service for Nancy Bush will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel, 4777 West Spencer Field Road Pace Florida 32570, with visitation 2:00-3:00 p.m. and service at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Cora Baptist Church.
Special gratitude to The Terrace at Ivey Acres in Jay, and especially to Pruitt Health in Milton for all of the guidance, care, and dignity they so willingly provided in her last months. The Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging is also a tremendous resource to our area and their service is exceptional.
