Nancy Emerson, age 76, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at her home in Mena, Arkansas. She was born on Monday, April 25, 1949 to Eugene and Reva Sanders in Mena, Arkansas.
Nancy dedicated her life to nurturing young minds, teaching first grade for many years at Louise Durham Elementary School in Mena, and earlier in her career at Mt. Pine and in Waynesville, Missouri. Well known in Mena for commuting daily to school on her electric scooter, she remained committed to her students until retiring in the late 1990s. Before multiple sclerosis began to affect her life at age 40, Nancy found joy in crafting Christmas decorations and looked forward each year to sunny Florida vacations with her sister, Jane. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to her many friends who offered companionship and support over the years, especially Betty Cox and Chris Davis, and extend special thanks to Joanne Griffin, Melody Hobbs, and Andrea Denmon. The loving care provided by Elite Home Health made it possible for Nancy to fulfill her wish of remaining in her home, with deep appreciation to the many nurses involved; most especially her devoted aide, Rene Self, whose presence brought comfort and stability for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Adam Emerson; her brother, John Sanders; and her sister, Judy Campbell.
Nancy is survived by her grandchildren, Hailey Renee Emerson of Mena, Alexander James Emerson of Mena; her daughter in law, Emily Emerson; her sister, Martha Jane Edwards; sister in law, Charmaine Sanders; nephews, Mike Crawford, Mark Crawford, and James Sanders; nieces, Heather Larsen, and Jonté Cummings; several great nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.
