Nancy Jean Monkres, 93 of Bowie, TX, peacefully joined our Lord and Savior on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1st, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie. A graveside service will be held immediately following the visitation at Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie.
Nancy was born in Graham, Texas on August 24, 1931 to Will and Annis Deeb, Nancy was a woman of great faith whose life was a testament to her love for God and family and her dedication to serving others.
After graduating from Midwestern State University, Nancy began her storied journey in education in Sherman, Texas before joining the Bowie ISD Elementary education team. After 35 years of teaching she retired in 2003, returned as a full-time substitute teacher, then served as a full-time volunteer until 2017. Throughout her 50 plus years in education, Nancy positively impacted the lives of thousands of students and countless educators, including her children Steven and Susan who, inspired by their Mom, followed in her footsteps as educators, continuing her legacy.
In addition to her passion for teaching, Nancy loved her many friends, reading, working puzzles of all kinds, her Hallmark movies, cats and playing Chicken Foot with her friends at Independence Hall. Above all else, Nancy loved being a Mom and the best Grammy to her beloved Grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Nancy is rejoicing in heaven with her parents Will and Annis Deeb, her sister Mary Brown, her husband Harold Monkres, and her beloved children Michael Cunningham and Susan Wright. She leaves behind a legacy of love, remembered by her daughter Carolyn Melton and husband Henry; her son Steven Monkres, her cherished grandchildren Tyler Monkres, Josh Monkres, Gabrielle Sakel, Alex Sakel and Gabrielle Wright, her niece Annis Godfrey, and her extended family of loving friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's memory may be made to the Bowie Mission Fund, First Baptist Church, Bowie, Texas fbcbowie.org.
