Nathaniel Hawthorne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lockett-Williams Mortuary, Inc. - Gulfport from Jul. 29 to Jul. 30, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Nathaniel Hawthorne, Sr., a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on April 8, 1935, in Catahoula, Mississippi, Nathaniel was the beloved son of the late George and Helen Hawthorne.

Nathaniel made his home in Long Beach, Mississippi, where he was known as a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. Nathaniel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Louvina Hawthorne, with whom he shared a life filled with love, faith and commitment.

Nathaniel lived his values daily – through his dedication to his family, his Catholic faith, his strong work ethic, and his generosity of spirit. Whether tending to his garden, working with his hands on carpentry projects, or helping someone in need, he did it all with quiet strength and purpose.

He was the proud father of six children, six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Nathaniel was preceded in death, by his parents, George and Helen Hawthorne, his beloved wife, Louvina Hawthorne, two sons, Nathan George Hawthorne and Keith Hawthorne; one cherished grandson, Byron Henry; five brothers, Curtis Hawthorne, David Hawthorne, James Hawthorne, John B. Hawthorne and Percy Hawthorne.

He leaves to cherish his memories; two sons, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Jr. and Joe Hawthorne; two daughters, Gloria Hawthorne (Ulysses) Henry, and Claudette Hawthorne.

To all who knew him, Nathaniel will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His life was a true reflection of faith, family, and hard work, and his presence will be deeply missed.

A life well-lived, a man well-loved.
