Nelda Maureen Sheppard, daughter to Luther and Ruthie Smith, was born on November 25, 1934, in Buna, Texas and passed away peacefully in her home in Buna on January 4, 2025.
Nelda is survived by her daughters Lisa Holmes and Gary of Dayton, Texas, Nancy Walker and Jimmy of Newton, Texas; sister Mildred Hostetler and Johnny of Buna, Texas; brother Farrell Smith and Debbie of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren Allyson Krengle and Kevin, Chris Holmes, Linsi Walker, Matt Walker and Randi, and Haley Hall; great-grandchildren Kahner Krengle, Garrett Krengle, Addyson Krengle, Riley Walker, Ford Hall, Calvin Walker, and Hattie Walker.
Nelda is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnny Sheppard; sister, Sybil Robinson; and great-grandson, John Major Walker. Nelda enriched the lives of her family, friends, and community through her love and God-given gifts. She was a talented artist, master gardener, exceptional seamstress, musician, and an amazing cook. Her creative talents, strength of character, and unwavering faith have inspired the generations that follow her. Nelda forever changed the lives of her family and friends for the better and her legacy will forever be honored and cherished. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love, support and prayers from so many friends and family members during this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held to celebrate the life of Nelda Sheppard on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 10:00am at First Baptist Church of Buna with burial at Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at the church.
