Nicholas Bavas of Jacksonville, Florida born August 25,1965 on the island of Andros,Greece was taken to the lord June 28,2025. He immigrated to the United States with his parents, Michael and Anastasia Bavas in 1969 where he resided in many New Jersey towns until they settled in Wallington, New Jersey, where he graduated high school.
Nick's life long dream was to be a police officer. Nick Bavas began his career in law enforcement in 1993 at the 44th Precinct in the Bronx upon completing the police academy. He later transferred to the Bronx Evidence Collection Team and eventually joined the Crime Scene Unit in 2001.
A dedicated and decorated crime scene detective, Nick officially began working in crime scene investigations in 2002. He was highly regarded for his expertise in ballistics, courtroom testimony, and forensic photography. He selflessly volunteered his time-both on duty and off-to assist in the recovery efforts following the 9/11 attacks, a commitment that would impact his health for many years.
In January 2015, Nick made the selfless decision to retire in order to care for his newborn daughter, Charlotte, who was born prematurely, weighing just one pound. His wife, Faith, had nearly lost her life during childbirth due to a severe condition called preeclampsia. Without hesitation, Nick stepped up-becoming the steady, devoted presence his family needed during that critical time.
Charlotte is now 10 years old, and she always knew her dad was a hero. He was her protector, her teacher, and her greatest supporter. To Faith, he was a devoted and loving husband. To everyone who knew him, Nick was a gentle giant with a huge sense of humor-a big teddy bear with a heart of gold. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back, who never said no to anyone, and who went out of his way to help others in any way he could.
Nick had a deep passion for learning. If something caught his interest, he dove in completely-he didn't just dabble, he mastered it. Whether it was a new skill, topic, or hobby, Nick gave it his all. He was incredibly knowledgeable, curious, and always eager to expand his understanding-a true renaissance man.
He also had a special love for animals. Over the years, Nick rescued and cared for many, giving each one a home filled with love. His home was never without animals-dogs, parrots, turtles and even a few more exotic pets-each one a reflection of his kind and compassionate spirit.
Recently, Nick and his family took a meaningful trip to Greece to visit loved ones and show Charlotte and his wife the place where he was born. It was especially significant for Nick-it was his first time returning since he had left as a child.
Unexpectedly, on the morning of June 28th, Nick lost his long and courageous battle with the 9/11-related illnesses he had fought for years, leaving those who loved him heartbroken that he left this earth too soon.
Nick is survived by his loving wife Faith, his daughter Charlotte Anastasia, sister Penelope Bavas, and his brother Jimmy Bavas, along with his sister-in-law Alyson and his nephews Michael, Aidan, and James. As well as his Aunts and many cousins. He is preceded in death by both his parents, Michael and Anastasia Bavas. His legacy is one of love, sacrifice, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, his community, and the people he served.

God bless you brother..hadnt talked in awhile, very saddened to learn of your passing. Always a friendly face, especially when I needed it, a man with a huge heart. A brother in blue, we certainly ate some of the same dust and dirt out there in those streets. May you rest in peace, and my humble condolences to your family. You will be missed.
