Matthew Robert Reed
July 22, 2002 – October 13, 2025
Matthew Reed, 23, of East Bridgewater and
Wareham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at Boston Children's Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 22, 2002, Matthew was the cherished son of Paul Reed and Wendy (Russell) Allen. He grew up in East Bridgewater and split his time between his mother and stepfather, Wendy and Douglas Allen of Wareham, and his father, Paul Reed and father's partner; Cindy Sherman of East Bridgewater.
Matthew graduated from Pilgrim Area Collaborative through his IEP program until age 22. He had proudly transitioned into a group home in New Bedford, where he spent the last year making friends and bringing endless smiles to his housemates and staff. He also attended the May Institute day program in Raynham, where he was known for his cheerful energy and warm presence.
There are no words that could ever capture how much Matthew meant to those who loved him. His happiness was contagious, his laughter and smile unforgettable, and his hugs full of pure love. He had a deep love for music, especially Christmas songs and Justin Timberlake, and was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Those who knew Matthew will never forget his humor, warmth, and ability to make everyone feel loved.
Matthew had a joyful spirit and a smile that could light up any room. He loved spending time on the boat every Sunday with his dad, grandfather, and and his big brother and best friend, Ryan Reed. Where he'd grin from ear to ear, soaking in the sun and the sea breeze. Whether he was at home, on the boat, in his mom's convertible, or surrounded by friends, Matthew made every place brighter just by being there. He brought laughter and energy wherever he went.
He is survived by his loving parents, Paul Reed and Wendy Allen; his brother, Ryan Reed; his stepfather, Douglas Allen; his father's partner, Cindy Sherman; and his brother's fiancée, Jordyn Robertson. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather, Richard Reed, and maternal grandmother, Bonnie Russell. Matthew was the cherished nephew of Richard and Karla Reed, Mark and Maura Reed, Dana and Jay Burke, Denise and Dan DeCoste, Doug Russell, and Dennis and Cristin Russell. He leaves behind many cousins who adored him: Mike, Jess, Melissa, Jaime, Allie, Graham, Dar, Nate, Zach, Drew, Jake, Braedon, and Nolan.
Matthew shared a special bond with Laurie Steinberg and her daughters, Courtney and Caitlin, who held a meaningful place in his life and shared many cherished memories with him.
Matthew was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Carol Reed; maternal grandfather, Dennis Russell; his maternal uncle, Mike Oloskey; and cousin, Tyler Reed.
Matthew's light will continue to shine through the love he shared and the laughter he brought to everyone who knew him. His family takes comfort in knowing he is free from pain and surrounded by peace.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved. Heaven gained an angel, but the world will never be the same without him.
