Norman Bryan Hancock

July 27, 1945 - July 25, 2025

Norman Bryan Hancock, 79, of Odenton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, in Gambrills, Maryland. Born on July 27, 1945, in Indian Head, Maryland, Norman dedicated his life to family and public service.

Norman served with distinction as a federal criminal investigator, retiring from federal service as an Assistant Inspector General for the United States Postal Service. Throughout his career, he brought intellectual rigor and curiosity to addressing complex challenges ranging from bid rigging to cyber crimes and drug interdiction. He notably served on the Security Committee for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, leading aviation security for the Olympic Games, reflecting the respect of the law enforcement community he proudly served.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Delsie Tutwiler Hancock; his children, Bryan Hancock and his wife Maryanne Quinn Hancock, and Laura Blough and her husband Adam Blough; his sister, Susan Hancock; and his cherished grandchildren, Will Hancock, Hugh Hancock, and Jackson Blough.

Norman had a passion for automobiles, particularly his treasured 1968 BMW 2002, and enjoyed following college sports and studying military history. He maintained lifelong connections to Charlottesville, returning each fall for football season to tailgate with family, friends, and his fraternity brothers from Delta Upsilon, reflecting his deep appreciation for lasting friendships and shared experiences.

Above all, Norman will be remembered for his dedication to family and his unwavering commitment to public service, touching the lives of all who knew him.

Services: Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM on July 30, 2025, followed by funeral mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Fields in Millersville, Maryland. Burial will take place on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 10;30 AM at the University of Virginia Cemetery in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Historic Buildings and Grounds Fund at the University of Virginia.
