Hayes, Norman C. age 96
It is with sadness that I announce the death of my father, Norman C. Hayes. Norman passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. He was the most wonderful and caring dad and carried such a strong faith in God and he is now home with the Lord. Norman was born in Elmira, NY on August 2, 1928, and was a lifelong resident of Horseheads, NY.
Norman was the son of Samuel Clifford Hayes and Helene (Hicks) Hayes who predeceased him in death, as did his loving wife Martha (Palmer) Hayes, his daughter Cynthia Shorey, and his brothers Melvin Hayes, and Justin Hayes.
Norman is remembered by his son Jeff Hayes of Horseheads, NY, and grandson Jamie Hayes of Texas. Other survivors include brother Douglas (Mary) Hayes and sister Dolores Strope. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, numerous relatives, special friends and his "second family" the Mosier's.
Norman was a Corporal in the United States Army stationed in Alaska.
Norman and his late wife Martha were members of the American Baptist Community Church in Big Flats, NY, and the proprietors of Martha's Ceramic Shoppe for many years. Norman worked in construction in his earlier years and built over one hundred homes.
Norman's passion for playing cards and board games continued strong at age 96, and he is reunited with his beloved wife in heaven enjoying their favorite pastime. He loved going out to eat at his favorite diners, restaurants and especially World's End State Park in Forksville, PA.
A time of gathering with family and friends will be from 11:00a.m. to noon on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Barber Funeral Home. located at 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, NY. A celebration of Norman's life will follow at the conclusion of calling hours at noon with the graveside service at 1:00p.m. in Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY
