Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sioux Funeral Home on Feb. 26, 2025.
Norman Frank Rogers, Sr. was born on April 5, 1938 in Rosebud, SD to Robert Rogers and Marie (Lenaugh) Rogers. Norman made his journey to the Spirit World on February 21, 2025 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Norman graduated Central High School in Rapid City, SD enlisted in the United States Nave on June 13, 1956 and was Honorably Discharged on May 27, 1960. Norman continued his work with fellow coordinators, Leona Winters, Jake Little Thunder, Elijah Whirlwind Horse, and Gerald One Feather. He was part of the construction of the first community building in Wanblee, the Kennedy Hall, and was also instrumental in the construction and foundation of the Wanblee Day School, Crazy Horse School, Save the Children Federation, Advocation for Community Colleges on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Norman was a unified school board member for Flandreau, SD and Crazy Horse School in Wanblee, SD. He was the missel sight inspector in Rapid City, SD/Clinton, Butler, Appleton Missouri/Fargo & Minot, ND and was also an employee of the I.H.S. and BIA for 37 years as a maintenance foreman, supervisor, and facility manager retiring in 2005.
Norm wore his heart on his sleeve, he was a devoted, determined and energetic man. He had high morals, values, and the perseverance in all he did with his work, family, friends, community, and his joy of life.
He was a man of completion, he always greeted life, and all who met him with a smile, joke, advice, trust, and knowledge to all who made the time to grow from his knowledge. (with seriousness/not so serious). Norman was a father, grandfather, uncle, friend to many without one. Norm's heart was that of gold, and joy you were fortunate to know, meet, or come across him, at one point, or sometime in your life. Even a community that would mark him as a non-member/outsider he made that community much better being a part of it. Norm held no ill will, he made the best of what he could, and can do, with his beautiful soul he left a Legacy, also a memorial impact where ever he hung his baseball hat. Norm will be missed, cherished, loved, and when he left us, he left many broken hearts, and many good ones, he left some pretty Big Shoes to fill, may we all walk in a good way like he did all his life, and we thank you for being that gift in all of ours.
YOU WILL BE MISSED, AND ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED, MAY YOU CATCH THAT BIG FISH IN YOUR NEXT JOURNEY, AND MAY YOU FIND PEACE FOR THE PIECE OF YOU THAT LEFT US, WILL BE SO HARD TO BE REPLACED.
