Norman Larry Salvhus, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, in Cloquet, Minnesota. Known to many as Norm, he lived a quiet, rugged life defined by hard work, the outdoors, and the simple joys of northern Minnesota.
Born in Fosston, Minnesota, to Osmund and Hilda Salvhus, Norm spent his life working in the trades. He was a proud ironworker, braving steel beams hundreds of feet in the air-often in icy conditions-to provide for his family. His dedication and courage were unwavering, and his work ethic left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Norm was most at home outdoors. He raised his children with a love of camping, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling-passing down traditions that tied the family to the land and seasons. He especially loved fishing, whether out on the open water or deep in an ice house during long Minnesota winters.
In his later years, Norm developed a very special bond with his great-grandson, Dominic. Their connection brought out a softer, more playful side of him, and those moments together became some of his most meaningful and memorable.
Norm is survived by his children: Gregory, Kevin, Denise, and Brian; his grandchildren Garrett (deceased) and Derek; and great-grandchildren Dominic and Sarah Rose.
A private remembrance will be held by the family. In honor of Norm's memory, the family invites you to spend time outdoors, cast a line in the water, or share a quiet moment in nature-just as he often did.
Arrangements entrusted to Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
