Verna Billings Obituary

Verna Ann Billings, 4 years old, beloved daughter of Charity Neve and Vernon Billings Sr., died unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, from complications from an asthma attack.

Born June 28, 2021, in Scranton, Verna came into this world with a smile on her face and a gleam in her eye that brightened her family's world in so many ways. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to help her mom and dad. From helping mom fold laundry to washing the car with dad, Verna loved being with her family, no matter the activity.

Verna enjoyed music, her toys and pushing her baby dolls in the stroller, but her first love was her Daddy. An aspiring photographer, Verna would often grab your cell phone and take as many pictures as possible. Apparently, God needed her for a special reason, but her leaving us has left a huge hole in our hearts.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are siblings, Isaiah, Elijah, Joclyn and Jennifer Billings; maternal grandmother, Kathy Swendsen; paternal grandparents, Edna Shuester Billings and Melvin Louis Billings; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life for Verna will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, from Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with the Rev. Shawn Walker, Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, Scranton.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
