Onzelle [Dale] Hays Duren 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday July 10th 2025 at her home in the New Hope community near Holly Pond Alabama. A graveside service will be held Saturday July 19th 2 pm at New Hope #2 Baptist Church with brother Dink Lambert presiding. The church will provide a meal for family and friends afterwards.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Bob Duren, son Brian Abbott, parents Homer and Ruby Hays, sisters Joyce Martin and Marilyn Calvert. She is survived by sons Ron [Vicki] Akers, Terry Abbott, sisters Sharon Wadsworth, Diane Burton, brother Randy Hays, sister-in-law Betty Duren, 11 grandchildren: Britt Akers, Andrea Allen, Francie Gordon, Heidi DiLorenzo, Lane Abbott, Zachary Abbott, Wyatt Abbott, Jason Abbott, Tyler Abbott, Robyn Scott, Christopher Boroff, 8 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She worked as a nurse for most of her adult life, first working for Dr. John Morris in Cullman, AL. After getting her LPN license she worked with both Hanceville and Cullman Nursing homes and worked with both the Cullman and Decatur hospitals.
She was a long-time member of New Hope #2 Baptist Church and loved both her church and her church family.
The family would like to express special thanks to Casey Barnes and the ExpectCare hospice family for providing medical care for the past 2 years and to family and friends for their prayers and support.
