Opal Shipes Newsome, a resident of Eufaula, Alabama, died Sunday morning, June 15 2025, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 99.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral in Panama City, Florida. Mrs. Newsome will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Newsome was born and reared in Jackson County, Florida, daughter of the late John Henry Shipes and Mattie Barrentine Shipes She lived in Panama City all her adult lifetime. Mrs. Newsome was a member of First Baptist Church of Eufaula and a former member of Eastside Assembly of God in Panama City. She worked as a seamstress most of her adult lifetime.
Mrs. Newsome was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton R. Newsome, Sr., and two sisters, Ruby Sims and Bonnie Smith.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Donna Burch (Charles), Eufaula; a son, Clayton R. Newsome, Jr. (Eloise), Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Michelle Holley (Paul), Angela Hawkins (Mike), Alecia Clagett (Andrew), Stephanie Silva (Joe), and Burton Funchess (Lisa); eleven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
