Patricia Thompson Johnson, "Nana" a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and esteemed public servant, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, at the age of 88 in
Flora, Mississippi. Born June 22, 1937, in Jefferson Davis County, Mississippi, Patricia's life was marked by her dedication to her family, her faith, and her community.
A proud graduate of Clem High School and Mississippi College, Patricia's zest for knowledge and community involvement set the stage for what would become a remarkable career in public service. She was a respected figure in the Mississippi State Legislature, where she held various impactful roles, culminating in her position as the administrative assistant to the Speaker of the House. Her work was characterized by a steadfast commitment to excellence and a passion for facilitating the legislative process.
In addition to her notable career in government, Patricia was a skilled freelance court reporter. Her proficiency and professionalism made her an invaluable asset to the legal community. Her ability to capture the spoken word with precision and clarity was unmatched, and she was held in high esteem by her colleagues and peers.
Patricia's Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Flora Methodist Church, where she not only attended regularly but also lent her musical talents to the congregation. As a choir member and a pianist, she brought joy and inspiration to many through her music. Her love for hymns and praise songs echoed the depth of her belief and her desire to serve the Lord.
An ardent supporter of the University of Southern Mississippi, Patricia was known for her enthusiasm as an avid USM fan. Her spirit and loyalty to the team were evident, both in victory and in defeat, exemplifying the true heart of a fan.
Patricia's legacy is lovingly carried on by her family, who were the light of her life. She is survived by her sons, Lon Johnson of Flora, Stan Johnson and his wife Robbyn of Madison, and David Johnson of Pearl; her grandchildren, Shellee Gamberi, (Jamey) Davis Johnson ( Natalie), Heath Johnson, and Hanna Woods (Shawn) and her great-grandchildren, Tate Johnson and Wells Gamberi. Each of them will fondly remember her as a guiding force of love, wisdom, and grace.
Patricia Thompson Johnson lived a life full of purpose and service. Her impact on the lives she touched and the institutions she served will be remembered with admiration and gratitude. As her family and friends bid farewell, they celebrate a well-lived life, filled with accomplishments, cherished memories, and an enduring legacy of faith and family. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025, at First Methodist Flora with interment following in Flora Cemetery. The visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m.
