Kok Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Cottage GrovePatrick "Pat" Mountain, age 79, of Hugo, MN, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, in Stillwater.
Born on March 17, 1946, Pat was known for his presence and perspective. He was thoughtful, direct, and often had strong opinions. Many valued his advice; he had a way of seeing things clearly and wasn't afraid to speak up when it mattered. He carried himself with confidence and always made an impression, whether in conversation or around the dinner table.
He married Karen, his lifelong partner, and together they raised seven children Kaisa (Ed), Josh, Anna, Emily (Justin), Katie (Steph), Jeremiah (Stacie) and Sarah (Phil). Later, they welcomed Johnny and MaryJane into their home, extending their family even further. Pat often told others he was "rich with family," and he meant it. He was proud of the life he and Karen built together and took great pride in watching his family grow. As children became parents and new generations arrived, Pat found deep satisfaction in seeing the family continue to grow. He was proud of his many grandchildren: Emma and Ava (Kaisa), Aria (Josh), Carter, Ashton, Owen, and Cam (Anna), Zander (Emily), Sabrina and Orion (Katie), Neil and Nora (Jeremiah), and Ivy (Sarah). His extended family includes his brother, Jerry (Lisa), as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pat built a successful career in sales leadership across several companies in the audio and electronics industry. He had a natural talent for communication and spent many years of his working life on the road, forging relationships and closing deals. After years of travel, he settled into retirement and enjoyed time at home with his favorite interests.
In retirement, Pat enjoyed working on his HO scale model train layout, often alongside his son-in-law, Justin. He was especially fond of watching his favorite teams, the Chicago Cubs and Bears, and stayed loyal to them year after year. He also enjoyed relaxing at home with a good movie or TV show, often rewatching old favorites or discovering something new to share.
In his final year, Pat lived with dementia. Throughout that time, Karen cared for him at home with unwavering love and strength. After suffering a stroke on May 27, Pat eventually entered hospice care and was surrounded by family in his final weeks.
Pat is preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Esther (Freeman) Mountain and sister Mary.
A celebration of Pat’s life will be held on Saturday, August 9th at the St. Croix Event Center in Stillwater, MN. An open house will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with words from the family at 3:00 p.m. and opportunities for others to share memories and reflections following.
