Paul Dean Long, 87, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, in Florence, Kentucky. Born on July 24, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Paul lived a life marked by service, dedication, and deep devotion to his family.
Paul proudly served in the United States Army for over twenty years as part of the Army Security Agency. His military career reflected his steadfast commitment to duty and country. Following his honorable service, Paul continued to serve the nation through a distinguished career with the U.S. State Department in Foreign Service, where he worked for more than a decade.
A man of strong principles and quiet strength, Paul was known for treating others with respect and fairness-values he both lived by and expected in return. For him, family was not only a responsibility but also a cherished privilege. He was a loving husband to Hanna Dittrich and a devoted father to Jimmy Long, Janice Wren, and Paul E. Long.
Paul's legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: Angie Sparks Kelsch (Rob), Stephanie Ann Brown, Jessica Dolhancryk (Brandon), Rebecca Gibbs (Kelly), Krystale Wren, Kevin Long, and Ian Long; and through his fifteen great-grandchildren: Jameel, Tanner, Madison, Sophia, Will, Dallas, Savanna, Amberly, Jasmin, Conner, Dylan, Cora, Valerie, Hannah and Evelyn.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Laurence Long, and his Mother, Alice Robbins.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and family life, Paul found camaraderie and purpose in fraternal organizations. He was an active member of Military Order of Cootie Nor-ken-Tuckthe Newport Commandery No. 13 Knights Templar, VFW #6423, American Legion Post 20, Mason's Good Faith Lodge #95 and the Syrian Shriners of Cincinnati-groups that reflected his values of fellowship and service.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him-as a man of integrity who led with strength and loved without reservation. A Funeral Service will be held on July 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Don Catchen & Sons Funeral Home 3525 Dixie Hwy, Elsmere KY.
