Paul McMurl Obituary

Paul McMurl, 82, of Beardstown, passed away on October 13, 2025. He was born on April 19, 1943, the son of Herman and Ruth Lovell McMurl. He married Judy Hobrock on November 11, 1988, and she survives.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Curt (Kim) McMurl, Niki (Dan) Wise, Chris (Megan Little) Vaniter; one brother, Harry (Marilyn) McMurl; three sisters, Nora Utterback, Mary Lou Gielau, Kay (Paul) Blakeman; 11 grandchildren, Jessica (Ethan) Bailey, Mitchell McMurl, Adam Wise, Gretchen Wise, Cora Wise, Tycen Little, Landon Little, Nolan Vaniter; and three great-grandchildren, Colt Bailey, Riggs Bailey, Mia Bailey, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Herman and Ruth McMurl; one daughter, Ericka McMurl; one brother, Robert McMurl; and two sisters, Margaret Beutin, and Henrietta Barker.
Paul attended Beardstown High School, later joining the Navy serving from April 6, 1964 - September 7, 1966. After serving he worked many years at Oscar Mayer as well as E & M Electric Company. He loved to garden, fish, and go duck or deer hunting. Paul was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, loving to attend his grandkids ball games, coaching little Legue for several years, and spending time with his two cats Pepe and Callie. One of Paul's favorite activities was being part of the "Chain Gang" for both High School and Jr. High football games. He was also member of the St. Alexius Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and was a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks. Above all he loved his family and loved being a "Papa".
A graveside service will be held at St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025. A lunch will follow at the Beardstown Elks for food and fellowship.
