Pauline Bernard Gage, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, after her courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on November 18, 1943, in
Beaumont, Texas, to Joseph and Hilda Bernard. Pauline was a bright light to all who knew her, and her loving spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Hilda Bernard; her siblings, Aaron Bernard Sr., Walter Joseph Bernard Sr., Dorothy Bernard Sheldon, Ruby Bernard Smith; Son in law, Richard Rideau III and her grandson, Michael Gage. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family.
She was a proud graduate of Hebert High School, Class of 1962, and spent many years working in various roles, including at Lerners Department Store and Bethlehem Steel. Pauline earned her phlebotomy certification and worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital, but it was in home healthcare where her true passion lay. She dedicated herself to caring for others, always offering a helping hand to those in need.
Pauline was a devoted mother to her children, Harold Gage Jr., Anthony Craig Gage (Darances), Pimela Renee' Leonard (Horace), and Celia Nicole Rideau. She adored her bonus son, Quinten Foster "Lucky Man", who was also her first great-grandchild. Known as Madea to her 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, who brought so much joy to her life,
Pauline is survived by her sisters, Clara Nell Boyd, Mary Alice Shields, and Joann Drenon.
In her early years, she proudly served as the team mom for her sons' Little League teams, The Cardinals and the Braves, but she was a "mom" to every child she met. Known for her heart of gold, Pauline was a natural caregiver, always ready to lend an ear, offer advice, or make you laugh with her quick wit and humor. She had a passion for cooking and baking and was especially known for the delicious meals she lovingly prepared for her family and the priests at Our Mother of Mercy Church, where she was a lifelong member.
Pauline's warmth and generosity made her a friend to everyone. She never met a stranger, and her ability to make others feel seen and loved was one of her greatest gifts. Whether she was making you laugh or serving you a plate of her famous food, Pauline had a way of making the world a better place, one person at a time.
