Peggy Louise Skaggs Bush, age 79, of Greenbrier, TN, passed away the night of Monday, June 16, 2025 at the Waters of Springfield, after facing Alzheimer's disease. Peggy was born January 10, 1946, in Nashville, TN, to the late James Preston Skaggs and Sadye Belle Waggoner Skaggs. She was raised in the Union Hill community and was a regular attendee of the Union Hill Baptist church. Later in life, she went on to frequently attend the Walkers United Methodist Church. She graduated from Goodlettsville High School in the class of 1964. Peggy grew up farming, taking care of livestock and tending to flowers & plants, fostering her deep love and appreciation of animals, horses & dogs especially. She always loved to tell the story of how she was kicked in the mouth by a horse when she was younger – the reason behind her front tooth being chipped. Peggy had extensive knowledge and fondness of flowers, even having been a part of the Union Hill Baptist flower committee. Her favorite flower was the beautiful poinsettia, a symbol of Christmas, which was her most favorite holiday. She would keep Christmas decorations up for months – maybe years – at a time. A creative person, she had passion for singing and sang in the church choir at Union Hill, as well as in a trio with her dear cousins, Connie and Joyce. She wrote great poetry. Peggy loved dolls and was an avid collector. She was a playful, loving and genuinely kind person with plenty of wonderful quirks, like how she always said "ho, ho, ho" when she yawned. Before marrying, she worked at Genesco. Peggy and her husband Hugh ran Bush's Greenhouses, more recently known as Tennessee Plant Producers, where they specialized in bedding plants, ferns, Easter lillies and mom's favorite the poinsettia. She was the loving mother of two sons, Sam Bush and Hugh "Carey" C. Bush III. Peggy cared deeply for her family and was always surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, and the Waggoner clan. She was very active in the lives of her grandchildren. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, James Preston Skaggs and Sadye Belle Waggoner Skaggs, along with her husband, Hugh C. Bush II and her two sisters, Sue Lockhart and Faye Baldock, brother-in-law David Baldock, and a sister-in-law, Lois Bush. She is survived by her sons Hugh "Carey" C. (Melissa) Bush III and Sam (Erica) Bush, grandchildren Anna Bush, Bailey Bush, Timothy Bush, Jackson Bush, and Sadye Belle Bush and 2 great grandchildren, Bentlee & Dalanee, in company with her brother-in-law Jerry Lockhart (Sue Lockhart), brother-in-law Jerry Bush, Sr and his wife Cheryl, her nieces and nephews Jerry Bush Jr, Carlton Baldock, Brett Baldock, Preston Lockhart, Robbie Lockhart, Michelle Bush, Denise Bush, Sandye Lockhart, and Leslie Baldock, and her adored cousins Connie Bennet, Jeannie McGhee, and Joyce Speight.
