Penny Roberta Freytag, 54, of Oliver Springs, TN passed away on June 11, 2025. Born on December 21, 1970 in Dalton, Georgia to William M. and Wanda S. Armes.
Penny spent most of her life in Petros, TN and the last 11 years in Oliver Springs with the love of her life and soulmate, Michael Lamons.
Penny had a vibrant spirit and gentle heart. In her younger years, she loved to play pool and spend time with friends. As time passed, her greatest joys were found in nature especially by the lake or near the ocean, places she truly cherished. She found peace in simple pleasures such as painting, caring for her plants, and watching the birds outside her window. More than anything, she treasured the time spent with those who made time for her.
She served as a Correctional Officer for the State of Tennessee and later brought smiles to many through her work in the floral department at Food City. Penny will be remembered for her quiet strength, her kind soul, and the deep love she gave her family.
Penny is survived by her beloved children: Stephanie Thomas, Knoxville, TN and children Lewis and Landyn, Daniel Thomas (Brigitte) and children Shilo and Marni, and Courtney (Preston) Dispain, and children Kenny, Kason, Ava, and Evelyn. She is also survived by her sister Carolyn Booker and nephew Jonathan Rich.
She is preceded in death by her loving mother Wanda Sue (Hooper) and father William M. Armes and her niece Felicia Rich.
Penny faced a short but courageous battle with congestive heart failure and stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Even in the face of illness, her strength, grace, and love for her family never wavered. She was not only a devoted mother and grandmother, she was a best Pafriend and a constant source of support to those who knew and loved her.
In accordance with her wishes, Penny will be cremated. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date
