76 year old, Penny Sanders, of DeMotte, passed away on March 24, 2025.
On May 10, 1948, Penny was born to Vernon ‘Luke’ and Flora ‘Granny’ (Smith) Gilbert in Rensselaer, Indiana. She worked as a truck driver. Penny enjoyed going to Shipshewana and the Covered Bridge Festival, always searching for the next arts and crafts for her family. Family was the most important thing to Penny, and she loved visiting with her family and enjoying a meal with them.
Penny is survived by her children: Denny (Mandi Tognarelli) Sanders, Wendy (Jeff) Sytsma, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and siblings: Larry Gilbert and Sue Odle.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents: Luke and Granny Gilbert, and siblings: Jim, Luke ‘Junior’, and Tyke Gilbert.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 E. Grove St., Wheatfield, IN 46392. Services for Penny will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025 at the funeral home with Joe Gilbert officiating.
Interment will be held at the Wheatfield Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Keener Township Volunteer Fire Department.
