Peter Nicholas Baker MD
Peter Nicholas Baker MD, 93, passed away July 7, 2025. Born in Oak Park, Illinois on September 19, 1931, he grew up in Oak Park and graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School class of 1949. He went on to Purdue University of Engineering, Northwestern University, and University of Illinois Chicago School of Medicine. After graduating from Purdue, Peter served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Peter was a beloved and well-known Pediatrician in Oak Park for many, many years. His private practice was Pedios and he was also the Chairman of Pediatrics at West Suburban Hospital. He was very philanthropic and spent many hours volunteering his services throughout his career.
He was an avid gardener and cyclist. He loved his 26 canoe trips to Boundary Waters with family and friends. Peter was an active member of Village Players Theatre in Oak Park. He also adapted scripts and starred in his own one-man plays. Music was another passion; he loved picking up his guitar or sitting at the piano to sing with family and friends. He also spent years singing in various choirs. He loved to travel and did it often, including family trips and trips with friends both near and abroad. Peter was a lifelong Chicago White Sox, Purdue Boilermakers and Northwestern Wildcats Fan!
Peter was a very proud and loving dad to five children that he raised in Oak Park, Peter Jr. (Debbie), Bonnie (Gilles), Beth (Bob) Maroney, Ben, and Nathan (Maria). He loved and adored his nine grandchildren, Carol (Geoff Williams), Elizabeth and Anna Marr, Blake and Bryan Maroney, Lia and Charlotte Baker, Chloe and Claire Baker; and one great-grandson, Griffin Baker Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Agnes (Swanson) Baker; sister, Shirley Davis, brothers, Charles and Donald Baker; wives, Carol (Coppens) and Lois (Woodworth); and longtime lady friend, Vera Klement. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Peter was always happy and loved to share his stories. He lived an amazing long life filled with love, happiness and adventures. He will be dearly missed.
A family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
