Peter Ott died unexpectedly at his home in Elkton VA, June 5th 2025. He was a devoted father, avid skier, river runner and hiker, lover of the Shenandoah Valley and all things Virginia. He leaves behind his son William, brother Robert, sister Barbara (Jessica), and the Sun Valley neighbors he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents (Clifford Ott, Betty Ott) and younger brother (Douglas Ott).
He was born in Tokyo Japan in 1952 to a military family and lived in several USA states, as well as several foreign countries (childhood and beyond). He was commissioned into the US Army upon his graduation from Arizona State University and served in South Korea during his active duty, and later on in Kuwait as a US Army Reserve Officer. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Notably, early in his career, he became Airborne qualified at Fort Benning, Georgia, jumping out of perfectly functioning airplanes.
He was active in developing a public hiking trail in Elkton and loved country living on the outskirts of town with his son, his Irish Setters and Retriever, and his neighbors.

Peter has been in my Aikido class since 2017. I, and the people who practiced with him, will miss him very much. He was training until the end of May of this year. This is him doing an Aikido technique at a seminar in January 2023.
